- Ride Description

Join Andy Ballentine for a 23-mile ride to visit sites of hidden and recently-uncovered history. We’ll visit the Oak Grove Cemetery, the Triangle (a thriving African-American business district before “urban renewal”), the three locations of the Bray School, the original location of the Williamsburg Baptist Church (where Civil War remains were recently discovered), the original location of what is now First Baptist Church and its burial ground (which was under a parking lot until 2020), the original and current burial grounds for indigent Eastern State Hospital patients who have died, an abandoned Colonial road, and the site of the Civil War Battle of Williamsburg.
Average speed will be 11 mph. Cue sheets will be provided. Ride a bike with hill climbing gears! We will stop as often as we need to so everyone stays together.
We’ll leave from the Bicycle Co-Op of Williamsburg at 10:00am (in the James-York plaza behind Shorty's).
Be sure to bring a sandwich/some food.
