Neighborhoods Ride goes to Smithfield
Reed & Karen Nester are continuing a series of easy and casual D-pace rides (10-12 mph) through local neighborhoods. These rides will be around 10 miles mostly on low-traffic neighborhood roads. No one will be left behind.
For a change of pace, we are doing a special Neighborhoods ride starting in Smithfield. This scenic route will travel on Old Route 10 out of town, pass the Smithfield Meat Packing Plant, and ride to Morgart’s Beach on the James River, and then back to Smithfield. There will be a rest stop at historic Fort Boykin at the midpoint of the ride.
The ride will start in front of the U.S. Post Office at 234 Main Street in Smithfield. There is public parking across the street behind the Taste of Smithfield, as well as a gravel lot behind the Crook law firm directly across from the Post Office. The ride will start from the Post Office at 10:00 am, so plan on taking the 8:30 am Jamestown/Scotland Ferry. For those interested, we will have lunch in Smithfield following the ride.
If you have any questions, call or email Reed at (757) 846-0121 or reednester@gmail.com. Helmets are required, fancy bicycle clothing is not.
Any weather cancellation will be posted on the Message Board no later than 7:30 am Monday.
