- Ride Description

Another nice route on some less traveled roads in the Smithfield area, including four gravel segments of about 9 miles total (shown in blue on the route map). The 33-mile route goes west from Smithfield almost to the Isle of Wight Courthouse, and then onto four scenic gravel sections interspersed by paved road, then back to Smithfield on Waterworks Road and Main Street. There is one store stop early on the route at mile 7.3, so bring your own snacks.
This adventure/gravel ride is suitable for mountain bikes, gravel bikes, hybrid bikes - anything with wider tires that you can pedal on gravel. This will be a no-drop C-pace ride.
The route starts in front of the U.S. Post Office at 234 Main Street in Smithfield. There is public parking across the street behind the Taste of Smithfield, as well as a gravel lot behind the Crook law firm directly across from the Post Office.
The ride will start from the Post Office at 9:30 am, so plan on taking the 8:00 am Jamestown/Scotland Ferry. For those interested, we will have lunch in Smithfield following the ride. For additional information, call or email Reed Nester at (757) 846-0121, reednester@gmail.com or Andy Ballentine at (757) 645-7961 andyballentine@yahoo.com.
Any weather cancellation will be posted on the Message Board no later than 7:30 am Saturday.
