Ride Description

The "Waverly Ride" has been a monthly ride on the 2nd Saturday of the month since the 1990s, along wonderfully flat, rural roads with very little traffic.

We’re calling this month's ride the “4-H Ride” because the rest stop will be at the Airfield 4-H Center in the countryside outside of Wakefield, VA.  The 33-mile route has some very scenic spots.  In addition to Airfield Lake at the 4-H Center, there is Spring Hill pond at MP 7.2 and Harrell's mill pond at about MP 29.

The ride begins and ends in the little town of Waverly, VA.  Take the 8:10 or 8:30 AM ferry, go through the town of Surry, take a right on Rt. 10 and a left on Rt. 40 which takes you to Waverly.  Park behind the closed restaurant at the intersection of Rt. 40 and Rt. 460, on the left.  After the ride, many from the group enjoy lunch together at Pinos’ restaurant in Waverly.

Cue sheet is in the WAB ride library - “4-H via Lanier Road”.  RABA member Sara Page will lead the B-pace group.  Andy Ballentine will lead the C-pace group.

This is a joint RABA / WAB ride.

Andy's contact info is 757-645-7961; andyballentine@.yahoo.com.

Attached picture is of a building, more than 200 years old, that was once a general store in Sussex County, near the Southampton County line and near the Wakefield 4-H Center.
