The "Waverly Ride" has been a monthly ride on the 2nd Saturday of the month since the 1990s, along wonderfully flat, rural roads with very little traffic.
Come on down to Waverly for a 40-mile quiet ride through the countryside. This month we go back in time to beautiful downtown Dendron, VA. We'll have a chance to learn a bit about the town as the kind folks at the historical society are opening the building for our rest stop. Explore the roots of the town and also take a look at the boxcar outside from the SS&S Railroad. It is believed to be the only remaining car of the 70 that once hauled lumber to Scotland Wharf. You won't want to miss it!
The ride begins and ends in the little town of Waverly, VA. Take the 8:10 or 8:30 AM ferry, go through the town of Surry, take a right on Rt. 10 and a left on Rt. 40 which takes you to Waverly. Park behind the closed restaurant at the intersection of Rt. 40 and Rt. 460, on the left. Lunch is available after the ride at Pinos’ restaurant in Waverly.
RABA member Sara Page will lead a B-pace ride. Andy Ballentine will lead the C-pace ride. Andy’s contact info is 757-645-7961; andyballentine@yahoo.com
This is a joint RABA / WAB ride.
